FDA Publishes GMPS - June 25, 2007
- The FDA has finally published the GMPs for the
dietary supplement industry. Manufacturers are required under the new
GMPs to establish product specifications for the "identity, purity,
strength, and composition" of the finished batch of dietary supplement.
Furthermore, they state that manufacturers must "provide adequate
documentation of your basis for determining compliance with the
specification(s) set" and that ""You must verify that the laboratory
examination and testing methodologies are appropriate for their intended
use." These statements amount to a requirement to validate the methods
of analyses used to support label claims. Click
here to read
the full regulation.
